Little feet are constantly growing and need space, freedom and a sole that allows natural movement. Barefoot shoes can deliver exactly that, because they support healthy foot development without restricting natural motor skills. With the new Wooly Steps, we have developed a shoe that consistently puts this idea into practice: natural movement, child-friendly design and premium merino wool comfort – from those first steps right through to everyday school life.

Why barefoot shoes for kids

Feet learn to walk – and they do it best when they are allowed to work with as little interference as possible. A flexible sole, ample room in the toe area and no artificial heel are considered important features of a foot-friendly children’s shoe. Barefoot shoes with a zero-drop sole – i.e. with no height difference between heel and forefoot – enable a natural roll-through and thus promote the muscles, balance and body awareness.

A quick tip: When buying barefoot shoes, a thumb’s width of space at the front is recommended – this gives the foot enough room to splay and move naturally while walking.

Wooly Steps in detail: what makes this shoe special

Flexible zero-drop sole with wide toe box

The heart of the Wooly Steps is its sole: The zero-drop construction keeps heel and forefoot at the same height, allowing a natural roll-through. The deliberately wide toe box gives little toes plenty of space – to splay, grip and grow. The non-slip rubber soles are made from recycled material and offer reliable grip on different surfaces, even when wet.

Putting them on independently – without the frustration

The desire for independence is great, while fine motor skills are sometimes still developing. That’s why the Wooly Steps come with three clever details that make putting them on by themselves easier:

  • Asymmetric tongue flap – opens up easily and guides the foot safely into the footbed

  • Heel tab – gives kids a good grip when putting the shoes on

  • Right–left symbols on the toe box – small pictograms help match the right shoe to the right foot

The result: less mum, less dad – more independence in everyday life.

Merino wool – comfort right against the skin

The lining of the Wooly Steps is made from fine merino wool jersey. Merino wool is naturally breathable and temperature-regulating – which means it absorbs moisture and releases it again without feeling clammy. At the same time, the material is pleasantly soft and also well suited to sensitive children’s skin. The integrated memory insole adapts to the individual foot shape and makes every step more comfortable.

Thoughtful safety and everyday details

Especially when children are out and about at dusk or in the evening, reflective details play an important role. The Wooly Steps are equipped with reflectors that improve visibility in low-light situations. There is also a name field on the care label – practical for nursery, kindergarten and preschool, where shoes can easily get mixed up.
