What to Look for in Outdoor Slippers

We’re all spending more time at home and that only makes it more essential that we find the perfect slippers. This could mean finding slippers that work both inside and outside to avoid switching throughout the day. So what should you be looking for in outdoor slippers?

You need slippers that can do it all, from walking around inside the house, to popping down to the mailbox, to having your morning coffee in the garden or on the terrace.

Outdoor Slippers Need a Sturdy Sole

One of the most important things when it comes to outdoor slippers is making sure they have a suitable sole. Whilst we can predict what debris may be lying around our house, it’s a little more difficult to know what our feet may come into contact with outside. Whether it’s thorns from your garden plants, or bits of rubbish that have found their way onto your front path, if you’re planning on going outside in your slippers you want to make sure your feet are protected from anything that may hurt them.

This is why the sole of outdoor slippers are important, you want to make sure they’re thick enough to stop anything sharp getting to your foot, and also supportive enough to work on the different surfaces the outdoors has to offer - whether it’s your garden grass, or the pavement on your street.

Temperature Regulating Materials

We can keep our houses at a comfortable temperature but it’s a bit harder to keep the outdoors as warm as we would like. So when buying slippers suitable for outdoors we should consider making sure the fabric they are made of is temperature regulating and insulating. One material that offers insulating properties is wool, whether it be merino wool, virgin wool, or boiled wool. Merino wool in particular has properties which create air-pockets that can act as insulation as well as a temperature regulator, so your feet will be kept warm in the cold winter air, and cool during the hot summer months.

outdoor slippers should be easy to clean

Easily Washable Outdoor Slippers

When we’re walking around our gardens in our slippers we don’t want to worry about how we get them clean again, as they’ll inevitably get dirty - especially if it’s kids’ slippers we’re talking about! There’s a simple way to make sure any worries of dirt are subdued, buy outdoor slippers that can be machine washed.

All of Giesswein’s slippers are easily machine washable so you can enjoy the outdoors as much as you want!

Do your Slippers Need to be Water Resistant?

Another aspect to consider when seeking slippers for outdoors is whether or not they’re water resistant. If you live in a wet climate this is particularly important. Different slippers will have different levels of water resistance, for instance leather slippers are extremely water resistant due to the nature of leather. Certain types of wool, like boiled wool are also water repellant.

When looking at outdoor slippers you need to decide what level of water-resistance you’re looking for and what material will offer this for you.
