Whether it’s a leisurely hike, a demanding trekking tour or a sporty trail run, time in the mountains means movement, fresh air and a close-to-nature experience. To enjoy your tour as carefree as possible, it’s worth taking a look at your gear. Choosing the right footwear in particular can help you move safely and comfortably across different surfaces.

Depending on the route and area of use, the requirements for an outdoor shoe vary. While stability and comfort are paramount on longer hikes, trail running calls for a direct ground feel and strong grip. We present two models developed for different mountain adventures.

What makes a good outdoor shoe?

A suitable outdoor shoe supports you on all kinds of paths – from maintained hiking trails to challenging terrain. Several factors play an important role:

  • reliable grip on different surfaces

  • pleasant comfort even over longer periods

  • breathable materials for a balanced foot climate

  • good cushioning to relieve impact over many steps

  • robust construction for use in nature

Which model suits you best depends primarily on how and where you move.

Two companions for your time in the mountains

Wool Trek X – for hiking, trekking and active everyday wear

If you love hiking, go on longer trekking tours, or want a versatile outdoor shoe, the Wool Trek X was developed precisely for these uses.

The upper is water-repellent and at the same time breathable. For long-lasting water-repellent properties, we recommend regular reproofing. Inside, Merino wool ensures a pleasantly regulated foot climate. It supports a balanced feel in varying temperatures and is naturally odour-inhibiting.

The quick-lace system is also practical on the go. With just one move you can adjust the fit without having to tie long laces. The padded tongue further enhances wearing comfort.

A premium VIBRAM® outsole ensures secure footing on various surfaces. Combined with the lightweight EVA midsole and the cushioning removable footbed, it creates a comfortable feel both on hiking trails and in everyday life.

Suitable for:

  • Hiking

  • Trekking

  • Outdoor activities

  • Leisure

Wool Trail X – when hiking path and trail blend into one another

Do you like to move athletically or spend time on varied trails? Then the Wool Trail X offers features designed specifically for trail running and demanding hikes.

The combination of Merino wool, 3D knit technology and breathable materials ensures a pleasant foot climate. At the same time, the construction supports a natural stride with direct ground feedback.

The waterproof construction protects in wet conditions. TPU reinforcements at the toe, collar and lacing increase stability on uneven terrain. An EVA midsole supports running comfort even on longer distances.

For secure grip, it also uses an original VIBRAM® outsole with Megagrip compound and deep tread. It offers strong traction on a wide range of surfaces – for example on rock, forest floor, mud or loose gravel. A reflective logo further improves visibility in low light.

Thanks to the practical heel pull tab, the shoe can be put on and taken off with ease.

Suitable for:

  • Trail running

  • athletic hiking

  • demanding mountain tours

  • varied terrain

Both models rely on the natural properties of Merino wool and a high-quality VIBRAM® sole. Which shoe suits you better depends primarily on your intended use.

The Wool Trek X is particularly suitable for classic hikes, trekking tours and for anyone looking for a versatile outdoor shoe. The Wool Trail X is aimed at those who like to move athletically and run or hike on trails or in demanding terrain.

The mountains offer countless opportunities to be active – from relaxed hikes to challenging trail adventures. With a shoe that matches your needs, you can fully focus on the outdoor experience.

Whether the versatile Wool Trek X or the sporty Wool Trail X – both models combine the functional properties of Merino wool with a grippy VIBRAM® sole and are designed for different outdoor uses. This way, you’ll find the companion that best suits your next adventure in the mountains.

What do our customers say?

Wool Trail X Women - Product meets my expectations; comfortable to wear, warm and weatherproof; although I already own several Giesswein shoes, this one ran a size small; exchange worked perfectly;
Thomas — ★★★★★

The Wool Trail X Men is the best hiking shoe I’ve ever had. It’s suitable for city walks, football matches, gardening as well as for extensive hikes in the low and high mountains. I used it, for example, for a day tour in South Tyrol (e.g. Selva/Wolkenstein - Langental - Puez Hut - Puezspitze - Gardena High Trail - Selva/Wolkenstein; not the easiest hike, steep ascents and descents on narrow paths and a longer heavy downpour). Really good grip, no slipping. Waterproof. The only downside: the shoelaces come undone more often.
Alexander — ★★★★★
