Hiking in summer has its own magic: long days, bright landscapes and clear views of the peaks. But heat can quickly become a challenge – for your circulation, fitness and, last but not least, your feet. If you follow a few simple rules and choose your equipment wisely, you will not only reach your destination safely, but also enjoy every minute on the trail.

Tips for hiking in high temperatures

Start early

The cool morning hours are your best friend. Plan your ascent so that you have the most strenuous sections behind you before the midday heat sets in.

Drink more than you think

Water is non-negotiable in hot weather. Rule of thumb: it's better to drink small amounts more often than to wait a long time. A hydration pack or lightweight water bottles are ideal.

Lightweight, breathable clothing

Functional materials that wick away sweat and dry quickly will keep you fresh for longer. A light hat or cap is essential.

Take breaks in the shade

Find places to rest under trees or cool rock faces. This is easy on your circulation and gives you a chance to replenish your energy reserves.

Non-slip grip & foot comfort

Feet swell more quickly in hot weather. Choose shoes that adapt to your feet, are breathable and offer grip on slippery or stony paths.

Shoes that support you in hot weather

WOOL CROSS X

When you're out and about on hot days – whether trail running or hiking – you need a shoe that's not only breathable but also keeps your feet feeling dry. The Wool Cross X uses a temperature-regulating merino wool lining that absorbs moisture and transports it to the outside. This prevents unpleasant sweating, even during intense activity. The stretchy yet robust performance material adapts flexibly to your feet, ensuring they remain comfortable even if they swell slightly. The 8 mm drop provides a balanced combination of cushioning and dynamics, while the Micro-Grip sole gives you confidence on dry, stony or slightly muddy trails.

WOOL CROSS X ALPINE

The Wool Cross X Alpine is a reliable partner for longer and more technical mountain hikes where you cross different altitudes. It combines a waterproof outer material with a merino wool lining that ensures a comfortable foot climate in both hot and cooler temperatures. On hot days in particular, you'll benefit from the soft padding and anti-blister heel, which prevents pressure points – a real advantage when you're out and about for several hours. The two-zone lacing allows you to tie the shoe more loosely in the forefoot area and more tightly on the upper, providing additional comfort in warm weather. The non-slip Micro-Grip sole gives you stability on steep passages, loose scree fields or even wet roots.

WOOL TRAIL X

Anyone venturing onto challenging terrain needs a shoe that offers maximum control and comfort, even in hot conditions. The Wool Trail X features an original Vibram® sole with deep lugs and excellent grip, even on slippery rocks or loose ground. Inside, merino wool regulates heat and moisture, while 3D knit technology reduces pressure and friction points. TPU protection on the upper and toe cap protects your feet from impact, and the EVA midsole provides long-lasting cushioning that prevents fatigue. The shoes are also easy to slip on and off, which is handy when you want to dip your feet in the stream on a hot summer's day.

Hiking in hot weather can be exhausting – but it doesn't have to be. With good preparation, plenty of water, well-planned breaks and the right equipment, you can enjoy even sun-drenched tours. And your feet will thank you for it when they are in shoes that keep them cool, dry and safe.
